[Amicitia Rosden and i are roleplaying a study of engineering in the ship! she's basically teaching Rake--me--about the experience, the work of engineering ICly 'cause i don't know any of that stuff lol and we'll possibly both be examining the ship's structure, too.. unless amicitia already knows everything, that is.
anyone can join i guess, but we'll always be in the engineering room except for some times when we might leave, like for food.]

Rake Wright entered the empty engineering room at somewhere around that of the late evening after he'd finished an early dinner. Fortunately, most other engineers went off to sleep at this time, save for Ensign Rosden and himself and possibly others he did not know. Now, he was to meet the green woman here; interesting that they had both called upon each other at nearly the same time to meet in the engineering room. Reciting the message she'd given from his mind's memory, he reviewed it and wondered as to the purpose she requested for him. It certainly couldn't be for the reason he had called for her.
He went to lean against the wall beside the room's door, unconsciously appearing as if he would sneak up on her when she arrived, though--if so--it would be done unintentionally.

[citi! we both called on each other to meet at the engineering room, okay? but it's up to you to make ami's reason. ]

Amicitia had decided to call Rake down because frankly, she didn't know much about programmes and this was Rake's specialty, so it said in his file anyway. There was an issue with one of the scanners and she had checked, it wasn't the hardware. The upgrades had caused some errors in the scans, or an increased accuracy which couldn't be verified as of yet until the programmes were checked. Ami would round the corner and totally miss Rake as she walked past him.

Rake Wright remained in his leaning position against the wall as the person in question entered the room. He stayed silent, as he was not one to speak first, while contemplating the reason for her calling him by studying her--or, more accurately at this point, her backside. People were most confusing, but this one more so. Staring at the back of her head, his arms crossed across his chest, he waited for her to examine the room and notice him. How could one be so unaware and careless as to enter a public area where company might lurk in their surroundings?
Just damn it all. She would keep going about the room being clueless anyway unless he let her know of his presence. He inquired audibly, but abruptly, enough for the lady to hear, "Ensign Rosden?"

Amicitia would have walked past Rake completely oblivious to the man's presence. She was not exactly observing her surroundings considering she was running through things in her head, mentally organizing her thoughts in a logical fashion...
until he called out to her. Considering she had just walked past the door, she had not expected someone to be calling out her name, especially from the wall section, and her first reaction would be to jerk out her fist in the direction of where the voice was coming from... which would be Rake's face. Twisted Evil

Rake sensed the surprise and response coming, but only held himself still in the spot he stood. The unexpected part was the action she took, a punch directed at his face. He flinched as the small fist connected with his cheek, near his jaw, and sent him stumbling a few inches until his back hit the wall. His first reaction was to recoil and hurry to defend himself, an impression that had been put upon him as a child. Thoughts whirling in shock that he still had such a response since he hadn't been hit in a long time, he blinked at the lady as his hand came up to rub the pained area.
Man. What kind of person had such a reaction, to punch someone when you were startled?
He used his right hand, the one rubbing his cheek, to check and readjust his jaw. Fortunately, she didn't have that much strength to land a very strong blow, as nothing appeared to be bleeding or broken. His cheekbone only felt slightly "punched in".
Turning his glare from her to the center of the room, he said, "I apologize. Did I startle you?"

Amicitia would withdraw her hand and eeped when she realized that it was Rake she had just hit. "Ohmigawd I'm sorry... It's reflex." she'd say as she covered her mouth and nose with her palms in embarrassment. "Yes... I'm sorry Cadet Wright... my friends in the Academy had trained me to have such reflexes..." in other words, they regularly tried to startle her. "It only stopped after I did such things..." she'd press the tips of her index fingers together in an embarrassed fashion. "Maybe we should get you to medical?"

Rake, ignoring the mortfication she was displaying, glanced back at her after having tamed his temper. Attempting to smile so as to reassure the green female, his whitened, pinched lips tilted only slightly, barely decipherable but visible. "I am fine. You're not that strong," he said, ignorant of the unintentional insult, though the woman would probably be as clueless as he.
He stilled his hands from touching his now sore spot, resuming the same leaning position against the wall with which he'd assumed earlier, his arms crossed over his chest again.
"Shall we move along, or will you like to apologize further?" he asked.

Amicitia would relax when she saw that he was smiling, okay so it wasn't so bad then. She would laugh a little, although it would be a nervous laugh when he said that she wasn't that strong. Indeed she was as clueless as he when it came down to the insult. "I guess its a good thing I'm not.... eh.. hehe.... well erm... yeah I guess it's kind of odd after this but I suppose I'll get down to the point. I need you to help me run through the programming techniques you'll be going through to upgrade the systems and we'll see what we can work out from there... so why did you call me down?" A curious tilt of the head was given to the man. Ami was certainly picking up strange habits from somewhere... or someone.

Rake studied--or as much as he was able to with the distance between them, anyway--the strange female. The concept 'alien' came to his mind again when he searched for something in which he could refer to her as.
She needed his help? He did smile at that. He never thought he would be needed for anything, being the man who found it difficult to even make conversation that he was. The old feeling of triumphant satisfaction returned at the notion of being able to give assistance.
With a happier, unusually for him, air, he began, "Well, much to my alarm, I find that I am not quite reliable and familiar with the ship--that is, its structure..." Hesitating, he continued in a more neutral tone of voice, "I was perhaps wondering if you will 'tutor' me or something of the sort. I wish to study again and be taught by one who I knew the best--I believe that is you--since I do not know anyone else I've witnessed of your experience..." All the while he was explaining, his hand came up to massage and rub the back of his neck in a strangely self-conscious way.

Ami would grin at his smile. "I admit I didn't pay as much attention to programming as I would like... my professor and I started off on bad terms and I didn't attend most of his classes after that," she'd say with a nervous giggle. When he asked for her to tutor him, she'd grin a little. "I'm sure the knowledge is in there some where, just that it needs some brushing up on." She'd say with another laugh. The woman glanced about the place. "So what do you know of the place already, then we can start off from there." Obviously she wasn't all that eager to get started on going through the programming.

Rake studied Ensign Rosden, then thought to himself for a moment. He pictured the image of the ship from memory. Sheepish to admit as much, but saying with as much calm and normality as he could, he answered, "Well, if we begin with my calling first, let me tell you that it is going to take quite a long period of time. I know, of course, the wrap core, and the basics that follow up…,” he paused, trailing off before shortening that with, “All in all, nothing but the first essentials?” One side of his lips tilted upward in what appeared to be a meek smirk. He thought it was fairly obvious what she would think of that: 'That’s all fine for a cadet!' and pass it off as insignificant. Certainly, he agreed. At least, that was what he was hoping.
